Metro Line 5 runs 24.90km from Thane to Bhiwandi and Kalyan. Long elevated corridor with 15 stations.
It will connect the Metro Line 4 (Wadala-Kazarvadavli) with the Metro Line 12 (Kalyan-Taloja) and the existing Central Railway.
It will allow rail access to Govt. and commercial areas. It will provide access to the commercial, Govt. and other landmarks in Thane and Bhiwandi.
It will decrease travel time by anywhere from 50% to 75%
Extended Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project
The Authority is implementing the Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project (MUIP) under the supervision of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai. Lakhs of people travel from Mumbai's Metropolitan Region to visit the Authority. To make similar infrastructure available for them, the Authority decided to extend the Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project(MUIP) to the Metropolitan Region to reduce congestion.
Infrastructure facilities will be a boon to the growth of industries and new opportunities in the Metropolitan Region. Will reduce the pressure on Mumbai's infrastructure. On its 24th December 2007, the Authority approved road construction and flyover at the cost of Rs.1,493.26 crores. Thane and Navi Mumbai, Kalyan–Dombivali Mira-Bhayendar Panvel, Vasai, Vasai, and Virar.
The Extended Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project consists of:
Construction of 3 creek bridges
Two rails over the bridge
9 Flyovers
Development and widening of roads that are 131.50km long
